UPDATE Jan 2017: OnSolution no longer sell the CoolTel range of GSM loggers. Instead, consider the WirelessTag range of loggers or contact us and we’ll help you find an alternative.

OnSolution now distribute the CoolTel Temperature Loggers.

What is a CoolTel Temperature Logger?

The CoolTel Temperature Logger has all the benefits of a traditional temperature logger combined with GPRS communications. It will automatically transfer the temperature log to a server once every 8 hours, or as soon as there is an alarm.

The results can be viewed from anywhere with internet access. If there is an alarm, you will be notified immediately by SMS or email.

The CoolTel Temperature Logger Advantages

You mean apart from the fully automated recording of temperatures and the immediate notification if something goes wrong?

The SIM that is provided with the unit will work anywhere in the world. You aren’t locked into a particular carrier, or suffer the problems of a single carrier’s poor coverage. So as long as there is some form of mobile coverage, the CoolTel units will transmit results back to the server.

The unit has a temperature display so it is a thermometer as well as a logger. This helps staff remember that temperature is always important. It’s not just enough to automatically monitor temperature, you have to promote a culture in which temperature awareness is central to food safety or quality.

And the battery life is huge. By comparison, your mobile phone is lucky to get a couple of days from its battery. The CoolTel will work for up to a year before the batteries need replacing.

The unit is reasonably large and I suspect that people would prefer this over a very small unit. It’s reasonably robust in construction and its UK design is shown in the overall quality.

The CoolTel Temperature Logger Disadvantages

Since the unit uses AA batteries, the housing is large. It’s not huge but it isn’t designed to slip discreetly into a box somewhere.

There is an ongoing fee because it does use GPRS. The fee is less than other units but does add about $100 to the annual cost. The savings in labour over the year should justify the fee for many.
