Version 8 of eTemperature now assumes that users will either be using a USB reader or no reader. Previously eTemperature still assumed that the user may want to use a USB or serial reader.
This change simplifies the instructions for users. It no longer directs them to the configuration screen to select the right port. It just waits for the reader to be plugged into the USB port and gives instructions to that effect.
eTemperature still supports the serial devices but users will need to manually go to the options and set it. A couple of times a year we have a user upgrading who has a serial reader. Our recommendation is to just upgrade to a USB device. They are normally really happy because they were struggling to find computers with a serial port.
Most users won’t notice this change, but hopefully it will clear up some confusion that previously existed. Our goal is to make temperature logging software easy to use.
